Borderlands 2 movie is about to be released on streaming media, with a global box office of only $24 million

After the flop of the live-action movie "Borderlands", it will be available on streaming media Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Google Play Store on the 30th of this month, priced at $24.99 and rented at $19.99. Considering that the film was only released on August 9, it was forced to switch to digital online distribution in just three weeks.

The light-speed digital release was undoubtedly a result of the film’s poor box office performance, with domestic box office revenues of just $8.8 million in its opening weekend, described by Variety magazine as “embarrassing,” meaning it finished fourth at the North American box office.

According to Box Office Mojo, the Borderlands live-action film has grossed just $24 million worldwide to date, against a production budget of around $115 million (with further marketing and distribution costs of $30 million).

On social media, early reviews of the movie "Borderlands" were all negative, and the Rotten Tomatoes score was even 0 at one point, before it rose to 6%.

Entertainment media IGN gave the film a 3-point rating: "Borderlands" is a catastrophic disappointment, like a pile of crudely spliced scraps, betraying fans' love for the Gearbox Software series in a derivative and sad way.
