"Anne Boleyn" is a British mini-series that premiered on June 1 this year. The series tells the story of the second wife of the executed English King Henry VIII Tudor fighting for the throne for her daughter Elizabeth. However, since its broadcast, its rating on the IMDb platform is only 1.2 points (out of 10 points). Most viewers were very dissatisfied with the black actress Judy Turner-Smith playing the role of the Queen of England. Some viewers said they could not imagine a white actor playing a black historical role. Others said that the script was not historically accurate and the lines were a poor imitation of Shakespeare. Compared with the audience's harsh reviews, the scores given by film and television critics are much higher. The Guardian and the Daily Mail gave it three stars (out of five), and Empire magazine gave it 5 points (out of four), and they also especially praised Jodie Turner-Smith's acting skills. Actor Turner-Smith also responded to the audience's dissatisfaction, saying she was not surprised by this. But she also pointed out that the author's intention was to tell a good story about a specific character and ignore the racial issues involved. |
