Renowned film music master Ryuichi Sakamoto announced that he had suffered from throat cancer before he was diagnosed with rectal cancer

Japanese composer, music producer, singer, actor and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto (69 years old) announced today through his studio on January 21 that he had been diagnosed with rectal cancer last year and is now undergoing active treatment. Ryuichi Sakamoto had suffered from laryngeal cancer as early as 2014.

Ryuichi Sakamoto was born on January 17, 1952 in Nakano-ku, Tokyo, Japan. He is a Japanese composer, music producer, singer, actor, and pianist. He holds a bachelor's degree in composition from the Department of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts and a master's degree in acoustics. In 1988, the soundtrack he created for the film The Last Emperor won the 60th Academy Award for Best Original Score. In 2015, he served as the music producer for the feature film The Revenant. In 2017, he won the Samurai Award at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival. In 2018, he won the Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival.

Over the past 6 years, my condition has gradually improved and my life has just gotten back on track when I was diagnosed with rectal cancer again. Although I was depressed for a while, I have now successfully completed the surgery and am receiving treatment.
