It is adapted from Alexander Kaye's novel "The Forsaken", supervised by Hayao Miyazaki, and is called Hayao Miyazaki's ancestor work. It was broadcast on NHK every Tuesday night from April 4 to October 31, 1978. The animation has 26 episodes, each episode is 24 minutes.
