Ghibli theme park starts construction today! Goro Miyazaki personally lays the foundation stone and will open in 2022

Today, July 28, the much-anticipated Ghibli theme park of the famous animation studio held its groundbreaking ceremony. The famous COS master, Governor Omura Hideaki of Aichi Prefecture, and Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki personally attended the groundbreaking ceremony. If all goes well, the Ghibli theme park will open to the public in the fall of 2022.

"Ghibli" was founded in mid-1985 and was named after its famous animation director Hayao Miyazaki. It means seasonal hot winds in the Sahara Desert. It has produced countless classic animated films and is deeply loved by fans around the world.

The Ghibli theme park will be located in Kutate City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is expected to cost more than 34 billion yen and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2022. The currently known theme projects include scenes from famous works such as "My Neighbor Totoro", "Castle in the Sky", "Spirited Away", "The Cat Returns" and "Howl's Moving Castle". It is estimated that it will provide a reception capacity of more than 1.8 million tourists per year.
