According to foreign media Deadline, Chinese superstar Donnie Yen will star in and produce the crime thriller "Golden Empire", in which he will play a notorious drug lord and the most wanted criminal by the US and Mexican governments.

The film will explore the complexity of the character, "showing the inner struggle of one of the most successful transnational drug lords in the world". It is an English film, mainly shot in the United States, and the plot spans Asia, North America and South America. Starlight Media and SA Inc invested in it, and Donnie Yen also served as a producer. At the same time, Donnie Yen will produce the film together with Peter Luo, CEO of Starlight Media, which is financed by SA Inc.

Producer Peter Luo said that the film is the first blockbuster about drug lords with an Asian lead and aimed at global audiences. He also said that he was convinced by Donnie Yen's performance in "Chasing the Dragon" and believed that he was the star of "Empire of Gold".
