A modern version of Romeo and Juliet is in the works, with a black male lead

According to an exclusive report by foreign media Variety: A new version of "Romeo and Juliet" movie is coming. This one seems to be set in contemporary America and is produced by Interface Films, the company of "Searching" producers Timur Bekmambetov and Igor Tsay.

Black actor Camaron Engels (Malibu Rescue) plays Romeo, Francesca Noel (The Miseducation) plays Juliet, and Carey Williams, director of the 2018 Sundance Award-winning short film Emergency, said: "This film will be a new version that audiences have never seen before. I am very happy to show the timeless classics in an unprecedented way and provide people of color with the opportunity to see themselves on the screen in these iconic roles."

The film's working title is "R#J". It was shot in Los Angeles before the outbreak of the new crown epidemic stopped production. The film's schedule and resumption date are currently to be determined.
