Today (March 20), Minions officially announced that the animated film Minions 2: The Rise of Gru, which was originally scheduled to be released in North America on July 3, will be withdrawn. The official has not yet announced the new release date of the film. However, according to the official, the withdrawal was not entirely due to the fact that the audience would not be able to watch the film at that time, but because it was difficult to complete the production of the film due to the closure of the studio. Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of film production company Illumination Entertainment, said: "In response to the current serious situation in France, we have temporarily closed Illumination Entertainment's Mac Guff Studio in Paris. We made this decision in compliance with the guidance of the French government and out of concern for our actors and their families, we will do our best to slow the spread of the virus. However, this also means that we will not be able to complete Minions 2: The Rise of Gru in time for its global release in late June or early July as planned. While we are all fighting this virus, we must take responsibility for the safety of our employees. We look forward to finding a new release date for The Rise of Gru." The first "Minions" film was released in 2015 and grossed $1.16 billion worldwide. The cute Minions have also won the love of movie fans around the world. |
