Captain Marvel 2 officially begins production and is expected to be released in 2022

According to foreign media Hollywoodreporter, Marvel has officially started producing the "Captain Marvel 2" film project. It is reported that Megan McDonnell, the screenwriter of the Marvel series "Wanda and Vision", will write the script for the film, and the directors of the first "Captain Marvel" Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will not return to direct the sequel.

Captain Marvel 2 will move the story from the 1990s in the first film to the modern era. Marvel also hopes to find a female producer for the film, while Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck may work on a possible Disney+ series project, which is scheduled to be released in North America in 2022.

Captain Marvel grossed $1.1258 billion worldwide, becoming the first female superhero movie to break $1 billion in global box office history. Currently, six Marvel movies in Phase 4 have yet to be scheduled, including Fantastic Four, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Captain Marvel 2, X-Men, and Blade.
