Domestic films account for more than 60% of the box office! The total box office of national films in 2019 exceeded 64.2 billion

Domestic films are gaining more and more attention. How is this reflected in box office revenue? On the evening of December 31, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television released data on the film industry for the entire year. In 2019, China's total box office revenue exceeded 64.2 billion yuan, with domestic films accounting for more than 64% of the total.

According to the release, the total box office of movies in China in 2019 was 64.266 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%; the total box office of domestic movies was 41.175 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.65%, accounting for 64.07% of the market; the number of moviegoers in urban theaters was 1.727 billion. In 2019, 9,708 new screens were added, bringing the total number of screens in China to 69,787.

In 2019, the country produced 850 feature films, 51 animated films, 74 science and education films, 47 documentary films, and 15 special films, totaling 1,037 films. Among the top 10 films at the box office, 8 were domestic films. There were 88 films with a box office of over 100 million yuan, of which 47 were domestic films.

In 2019, excellent domestic films were released in large numbers, with rich genres, leading the key schedules and creating significant social and economic benefits. The Spring Festival movie "The Wandering Earth" opened the first year of Chinese science fiction movies; the summer movie "Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World" achieved the creative transformation and innovative development of China's excellent traditional culture; the National Day movies "My People, My Country", "The Captain" and "The Climbers" inspired and echoed the audience's strong patriotic enthusiasm to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.

According to the results of the "Chinese Film Audience Satisfaction Survey" conducted by the China Film Art Research Center and Enlight Consulting, the audience satisfaction scores during key periods in 2019 remained high, especially during the National Day period, which reached 88.6 points, creating the highest satisfaction score for all periods since the start of the survey.
