'Super Mario Bros. Movie' is the most profitable movie of 2023, with a net profit of over $500 million

According to a report released by Deadline, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is the most profitable movie of 2023, beating out films such as "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie".

It is reported that the production cost of "Super Mario Bros. Movie" was $100 million, which was shared 50-50 by Nintendo and Universal Pictures, plus several other expenses, the total budget was $400 million. The total revenue of the film from theatrical release, television and streaming viewing reached $959 million, with a net profit of $559 million, becoming the most profitable movie of the year.

Currently, Nintendo has announced that a sequel to "Super Mario Bros.: The Movie" is under development, with the goal of being released in April 2026.
