Even though Netflix's live-action series about The Witcher has yet to air, it looks like it has certainly left a pretty good impression on Andrjez Sapkowski, the author of the novels. At the Lucca Comic and Gaming Festival, Sapkowski said he turned down the opportunity to watch the pilot episode of The Witcher live-action series because he didn't want to be spoiled and wanted to be surprised. However, Sapkowski did watch the trailer, and he said that if the official version is as good as the trailer, then The Witcher live-action series will be a masterpiece. Sapkowski told Wired magazine: "Yesterday I watched the trailer for The Witcher for the first time with the fans. I didn't even watch the pilot because I like the feeling of surprise. But I can say that if the series is as beautiful as the trailer, then we will have a masterpiece." In the interview, Sapkowski confirmed that Netflix paid him a large sum of money to serve as a scriptwriting consultant, but this would be his only involvement as he himself had no idea how to turn the books into a TV series. "I was a consultant for the series in the early stages of creating the story, and I was paid quite well. But I didn't participate in the actual production process, such as casting, filming, etc. When I see the scene photos, I am always shocked. Everyone asks me what I think Geralt and others look like, or how the novels are set, or even how they compare with the series or game versions. But the truth is, I don't imagine what the characters and scenes I write will look like, and I don't have an image of them in my mind. All I do is put one letter after another until I fill the page. I don't know how they should appear on the screen." Netflix's live-action series "The Witcher" will officially air on December 20. |
