Craig Mazin, screenwriter of the American TV series "Chernobyl", will participate in the development of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" reboot movie

According to Deadline, Craig Mazin, the screenwriter and producer of the American TV series "Chernobyl", will work with Ted Elliott, the screenwriter of the first four "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, to develop a rebooted version of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, is expected to return to continue as a producer, but it is not yet certain whether the series star Depp will return.

It is worth mentioning that a year ago Disney hired Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the screenwriters of "Deadpool" and "Zombieland", to reboot the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. However, the two left the project this year.

Craig Mazin won two Emmys for writing and producing the miniseries Chernobyl. Elliott was nominated for an Oscar for writing Shrek and co-wrote the original trilogy of Pirates of the Caribbean, which remains one of the highest-grossing film franchises in history.

The most recent movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," was released in 2017 and grossed $800 million worldwide. Although the box office fell by 25% compared to its predecessor, it still made the list of the top 100 highest-grossing movies in the world.

Apart from the box office factor, Depp is very likely not to return to the rebooted version of "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, because Depp was accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife, and he may no longer be a candidate considered by Disney.
