Before Disney acquired 20th Century Fox's entertainment assets in 2019, Josh Brolin was one of the few actors to have appeared in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men films. He played Thanos in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and Cable in 2018's Deadpool 2. Given Cable's connection to Deadpool, it was widely expected that Brolin would at least have a cameo in Deadpool vs. Wolverine. However, he recently expressed on a podcast that he was very disappointed that he would not be returning for the Deadpool movie. “I really wanted to be in that movie,” Brolin said while promoting the second season of his Prime Video series Into the Wild. “The Marvel Universe is so much more complex than Into the Wild, my friend… I’ll never know how that thing would have played out, or what it was, or what I was involved in, or what I wasn’t involved in — and now the Marvel Cinematic Universe is involved. Cable is such a fun character, and I really enjoyed playing that character, and it was really great.” Despite not being involved in the sequel, Brolin expressed his admiration for the film's stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. "I'm a huge fan of Hugh Jackman," Brolin said. "I know Ryan Reynolds now, and I've met Hugh a few times, and I thought the movie he did with Wolverine was just amazing! Scott Frank, the screenwriter, is a good friend of mine, and I think it's really great that these characters came together. And Hugh, I don't know how old he is, 56 or 57? He doesn't age. So, yeah, I'm a big fan." Deadpool vs. Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26. |
