What was unexpected was that there was a cliff-like drop on the second day of the Chinese New Year. The total box office for the whole day was 990 million yuan, falling below the 1 billion yuan mark, and was 40 million yuan lower than the same period last year.

Among them, "Crazy Alien" had a box office of over 283 million yuan, "The Wandering Earth" had a box office of over 261 million yuan, and "Speeding Life" had a box office of over 188 million yuan, ranking the top three.

Some people attribute the reason to the general increase in ticket prices this year. According to Maoyan Movie statistics, the average ticket price on the first day of the Lunar New Year last year was 39.1 yuan, while the average ticket price on the first day of the Lunar New Year this year was 45.1 yuan. The combined ticket price of "The Wandering Earth" and "Integrity" was close to 50 yuan, both higher than the same period last year.

Perhaps because of this, although the box office revenue on the first day of the Lunar New Year this year hit a new high, the overall number of moviegoers dropped by more than 1 million compared with last year, and the overall attendance rate and average number of people per show declined significantly: last year, a total of 5 new films had an attendance rate of more than 60%, while this year, the attendance rate of films with a box office of over 100 million did not exceed 60%.

In addition, last year's Spring Festival had many good films with good reputations, such as "Operation Red Sea", "Detective Chinatown 2" and "Monster Hunt 2", but the overall quality of this year's films is not as good as last year, which is also the main reason for the overall decline in box office. Of course, there are also films that have achieved good results, such as "The Wandering Earth" and "Crazy Alien", which have box office revenues of more than 900 million yuan, and breaking 1 billion yuan is almost certain.
