Jason is going to fight a shark! The new film "The Meg" takes place off the coast of China

Jason Statham's next target is a deep-sea shark! The action star has joined the horror sci-fi film "The Meg", which will feature a giant shark. This film, which has been in the works for nearly 20 years, has also welcomed a big star.

"The Meg" is adapted from the novel of the same name. In the original work, the two male protagonists need to work together to capture a megalodon cruising the coastline of California, USA. This shark lived 28 million years ago and could reach up to 60 feet in length. It was the ultimate predator of its time and one of the creatures with the strongest bite force in the history of the earth, but it is now extinct.

The Meg is directed by Joe DeTurduba, and the storyline is similar to that of Jaws. The script was written by Dean Georgaris, who was the screenwriter of The King's Heart and participated in the production of Life of Pi. It is reported that the story background of The Meg has been moved from the California coastline to the coastal areas of China. In addition, Colin Wilson (Avatar, War of the Worlds) and Belle Avery are co-producers.

The project was initiated by Disney as early as 1997, but the box office failure of Deep Sea 1999 led to the abandonment of the plan. Later, Warner took over and continued to shoot the film. Eli Roth, who has been shooting low-cost horror films for a long time, was confirmed as the director. His works include Grindhouse and Hemlock Grove, and he participated in the directing work of Quentin's Inglourious Basterds. But Eli Roth eventually withdrew from the crew, causing the film to stagnate for a time.

The success of the 2015 monster movie "Jurassic World" has accelerated the preparation schedule of "The Meg", and the director was finally confirmed to be Joe Dettuba, the director of "Last Vegas", "Instinct" and the "National Treasure" series. Currently, the film's shooting and release dates have not been announced.
