Disney has been trying to develop sequels to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise with new actors after Johnny Depp's reputation was tarnished a few years ago by allegations of domestic violence against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Disney has assigned two teams to prepare two different new "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, one of which is starring Margot Robbie and written by Christina Hodson, and the other is jointly conceived by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin. Richman said that the original plan for the film of Elliott and Mazin was to cast actress Karen Gillan to play the pirate role of "Redhead", but later the plan changed and the new protagonist was changed to a black woman named Annie (probably just a temporary code name). Disney's current candidate for the role of Annie is black actress Ayo Edebiri. Richman said that the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film will have an all-new cast.
