Netflix plans to raise streaming service prices after strike ends

Netflix is ​​expected to raise prices again once the SAG-AFTRA deal is finalized, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The streaming giant plans to increase the price of its ad-free service after the Hollywood actors' strike ends.

Netflix is ​​discussing raising prices in multiple markets around the world, possibly starting with the U.S. and Canada, according to people familiar with the matter. It is not yet known how much Netflix will increase its prices, when it will increase, or whether other streaming services will follow suit.

Current Netflix prices are as follows: Standard Package (with ads): $6.99 per month; Standard Package (no ads): $15.49 per month (additional membership seats can be added for $7.99 per month); Premium Package: $19.99 per month (additional membership seats can be added for $7.99 per month).

SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since mid-July, and it's unclear when it will end. Actors resumed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on Monday and will continue on Wednesday.

The Writers Guild reached a preliminary agreement with the AMPTP last week after five months of negotiations. Netflix cut prices for its subscription plans in some countries in February. That same month, the company developed a plan to combat password sharing among subscribers, which was rolled out in more than 100 countries in May.
