Comedian Adam Devine (Money Loafers) believes Marvel has ruined comedy movies because their budgets simply can't compete with blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel 2. According to Deadline, Deviney said on the show that while comedy series on television are still good, the state of comedy movies "is kind of in a bad state." He said: "I think Marvel has ruined it. I feel like superhero movies have kind of ruined comedy. Because people go to the cinema and you expect to see a movie that cost $200 million to make, and that's not the case with comedy movies. "You think, 'Well, if I'm paying the same amount of money to see a little comedy, why wouldn't I pay the same amount of money to see a $200 million movie?' Marvel can still make these movies kind of funny. I mean, they’re not really comedies, but they’re like, ‘Oh my god, that raccoon is talking? That’s hilarious.’ And they are, but it’s not really a comedy.” Notably, however, Devine later clarified his comments, citing a Variety article and writing, "As someone who loves movies and TV, being in Variety was cool, but it was misleading. I love Marvel and think these movies are cool. What I was saying was that studios trying to compete with Marvel have stopped making mid-budget comedies. I miss seeing comedies in theaters!" |
