The live-action movie "The Little Mermaid" has caused heated discussions since its release. Recently, Disney announced that the global box office of the movie reached 523.8 million US dollars, becoming Disney's best-performing work this year except "Guardians of the Galaxy 3", higher than "Ant-Man 3", "Elemental City of Madness" and "Indiana Jones 5".

The Little Mermaid earned $5.15 million in North America in its sixth weekend, a 39.6% drop, bringing its North American total to $280 million. It earned another $7.2 million overseas, bringing its total to $242.8 million and its global total to $523.8 million.

Earlier, Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King talked about whether they would reprise their roles if The Little Mermaid 2 was filmed. Halle Bailey expressed her love for the animated sequel The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea. "In the second part, they have a girl, a baby girl, who wants to go into the water.
