Super Mario Bros. Movie Has Surpassed $500 Million at the Global Box Office

According to Variety , Nintendo and studio Illumination's Super Mario Bros. animated film has reached the $500 million box office milestone after just nine days in theaters around the world.

The film grossed $260.3 million domestically and $248.4 million internationally.

By comparison, 2019's Detective Pikachu grossed $161 million worldwide in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, 2022's Sonic the Hedgehog 2, one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations ever, grossed $331 million, compared to the $319 million for the first film.

Sega also announced last year that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in theaters at the end of 2024.
