Stills of the American TV series "American Born Chinese" released, to be broadcast in 2023

Sina Film reported today (December 22) that the American TV series "American Born Chinese" released stills, with Michelle Yeoh as "Guanyin" and Daniel Wu as "Monkey King Sun Wukong" making their debut. The series will be aired in 2023.

Adapted from the comic of the same name created by Jinlun Yang and directed by Destin Cretton, Lucy Liu and others, the drama stars American-born Chinese teenager Wang Jin. It re-adapts Chinese myths and legends and traditional stories such as "Journey to the West" and "The Monkey King". The plot is described as "an action comedy series that explores identity, culture and family. It tells the story of an ordinary teenager trying to adapt to his high school life and immigrant family life. When he meets a new foreign student in his first year of high school, more worlds collide, and Wang Jin is confusely involved in a battle among the gods in Chinese mythology."

Michelle Yeoh plays "Guanyin" - Wei-Chen's aunt, who is not very conspicuous, but her true identity is the compassionate Guanyin Bodhisattva. Yeung Yanyan and Huang Jinghan play Wang Jin's parents Christine and Simon, Daniel Wu plays the "Monkey King Sun Wukong" who comes to find his son, Guan Jiwei plays Freddy Wong, a fictional character from a 1990s sitcom, Liu Jing plays Wang Jin's friend Wei-Chen, and Taylor plays Amelia, a classmate that Wang Jin has a crush on.
