Ang Lee directs biographical film Bruce Lee, his son Lee Chun plays Bruce Lee

According to a recent report by Deadline, Sony's 3000 Pictures will produce a biographical film "Bruce Lee" directed by Ang Lee. Ang Lee's son Lee Chun will play the martial artist in the film.

Dan Futterman (Capote, Foxcatcher) is writing the screenplay. Laurence Gray, Sheung Ling Lee, Ang Lee, Ben Everard, and Brian Bell will serve as producers. Elizabeth Gabler and Marissa Paiva will oversee the project.

Ang Lee issued a statement saying: "Bruce Lee is considered neither completely American nor completely Chinese, but a bridge between the East and the West. Bruce Lee introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world. He is a fighting expert and an iconic performance artist who has made innovative contributions to martial arts and action movies."

Lee continued, “I felt compelled to tell the story of this brilliant and unique man who had a thirst for belonging, a tremendous amount of energy packed into his 135-pound frame, and who, through his relentless efforts, turned an impossible dream into reality.”

Ang Lee made a lot of preparations for this project, including having his son Li Chun trained for the role for three years. Li Chun previously starred in Hollywood's "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" and "The Hangover 2", and was nominated for the highest Chinese acting award for "Teeth" and "Witness".

"Bruce Lee is a long-running passion project for Ann, an emotionally charged story that depicts the triumphs and conflicts of the most important real-life action hero of our time," said Gabler. "All of us at Sony and 3000 Films are proud to help Ann and his film team build this outstanding production."
