Hans Zimmer's Dune 2 score cannot win Oscar award due to Oscar rules

Today (October 23), Variety reported that the soundtrack of "Dune 2" directed by Denis Villeneuve does not comply with the regulations of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which stipulate that the proportion of the soundtrack of the previous film in the series that is reused in the soundtrack of the sequel cannot exceed 20%.

Composer Hans Zimmer told Variety that he did not create the music for the sake of winning awards, explaining that reusing existing scores was always part of the idea. The musician said that Dune 2 is a direct sequel to Dune, and that the score was written in a way that it could be "expanded."

Although Dune 2's soundtrack won't win an Oscar for Best Original Score, it could be nominated for other awards including the Golden Globe, Grammy and BAFTA awards.
