"On the Cliff" will have a sequel Zhang Yimou: Tell a good Chinese story

Recently, the "2022 Film List" released by Emperor Motion Pictures showed that the movie "On the Cliff" will shoot a sequel "On the Cliff 2", but the specific creative team has not been announced.

"On the Cliff" is a spy war film directed by Zhang Yimou, written by Quan Yongxian and Zhang Yimou, and starring Zhang Yi, Yu Hewei and others. It tells the story of agents fighting wits and courage with the enemy under severe tests and carrying out secret operations.

The film was released in mainland China on April 30 last year, with a cumulative box office of 1.19 billion yuan, making it Zhang Yimou's highest-grossing film. The film also received seven nominations at the 34th China Film Golden Rooster Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematography, making it the film with the most nominations at last year's Golden Rooster Awards. In the end, Zhang Yimou won the Best Director Award and Zhao Xiaoding won the Best Cinematography Award. At the end of last year, the film represented mainland China in the Oscars.

At the press conference for the film, Zhang Yimou shared his views on how to tell a good Chinese story, saying, "The most important thing is for the creator to tell a good story. There is no secret. When facing creation, you have to let go and treat it with a normal heart, return to the seven emotions and six desires of normal people, return to the smallest details, and shape people from the smallest details, and tell people's emotions. People's emotions are universal, so to tell a good story, you must first tell people's emotions well, and it will move everyone."
