According to Deadline, Knives Out and No Time to Die star Ana De Armas is in talks to star in the John Wick spin-off film Ballerina. Ballerinas will focus on a young female assassin who vows to find and bring to justice the murderer of her family. The character has appeared in the John Wick series before, specifically in John Wick 3, when she was training to become a killer. If Anna plays the lead role in "Ballerina", it means a change of actors. In "John Wick 3", the role was played by American ballet dancer Unity Phelan. Rumors of a spin-off film "Ballerina" first emerged in 2017, when it was reported that Lionsgate had acquired the production rights. Deadline reported that the film's budget was between $50 million and $80 million, but it is not yet certain whether Keanu Reeves will make a cameo appearance. "Ballerina" is directed by Les Wiseman and the script is written by Shay Hatten ("John Wick 3: Chapter 3, "Death Rider"). Ballerinas isn't the only John Wick spinoff in development. Lionsgate is also working on a prequel series, InterContinental, which takes place 40 years earlier. InterContinental will be three 90-minute episodes starring Mel Gibson. |
