Netflix is launching an acquisition of Roald Dahl's copyright, including "Willy Wonka" and other works

According to Bloomberg, Netflix is in the process of acquiring the copyright of the works of the late children's novelist Roald Dahl. The related transactions include famous works such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka)", "Matilda", and "The Adventures of the Giant Peach".

The deal is a more significant investment for Netflix, as the streaming company has made fewer than 10 acquisitions in the past decade, with Netflix more often partnering with production companies or filmmakers to create original stories.

Previously, Netflix announced that it was developing a series of animated series adapted from Dahl's works. It is reported that the total value of this transaction is between 500 million and 1 billion US dollars, which is the largest deal in the history of children's works and family dramas.

In addition, there are currently two Roald Dahl adaptation projects in production, one of which is the new version of "Matilda" being produced by Netflix, and the other is "Willy Wonka Prequel" being developed and produced by Warner Bros.
