Director Gunn says Martin Scorsese is criticizing Marvel movies to gain popularity

James Gunn, the director of the Marvel movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" series and the new DC film "The Suicide Squad", recently responded to the great director Martin Scorsese's statement that "Marvel movies are not real movies but theme parks" on a podcast.

Gunn said, "It seems very cynical that he's been so anti-Marvel, and that's the only thing that's allowed him to get press for his movies. He's making his movies in the shadow of Marvel movies, so he's using that to get attention because he's not getting as much attention as he'd like."

However, Gunn also said that he is a fan of Scorsese. "He is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, and I like his movies. I can watch his movies without any problems. He said a lot of things that I agree with, and a lot of what he said is right." Gunn added, "There are a lot of ruthless, soulless spectacle movies that do not reflect what should happen. Before many film directors go to make a big production, I can't count how many times I have talked to them and told them, 'Hey, let's do something different with these big movies together, and make something completely different from the past.' As a result, I see that they cater to the whims of each production company and feel sick."

Although Gunn partially agrees with Scorsese's views, he believes that Scorsese's comments on Marvel movies are "irritating" because Scorsese has not seen his own movies and has no idea what his work is like.
