Star Trek: The Series' First Live-Action Comedy

A new Star Trek series has been announced, created by Star Trek: Lower Deck actress Tawny Newsome and Haunted Mansion (2023) director Justin Simien. This will be the first live-action comedy in the series.

The series was announced at the Star Trek panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. The story is set in the 25th century and will present this famous science fiction series in a more relaxed style.

The show's official plot synopsis reads: "Federation outsiders serving on a resplendent resort planet discover that their daily activities are being broadcast live to the entire quadrant."

Details about the new series are scarce at this time, but Star Trek producer Alex Kurtzman described it as the series' "first live-action comedy."

Newsome and Simien also joked about possible storylines, including "clashes in leadership, outsiders and oddball partners, a must-see show in the 25th century" and "a bunch of people messing around, making jokes, oops!"
