Hard work is not as good as social phenomena: Makoto Shinkai praised the record-breaking Demon Slayer movie

Recently, the animated film "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" has grossed 4.6 billion yen in just three days since its release, breaking the box office record previously held by Makoto Shinkai. Even Makoto Shinkai praised the Japanese film distribution and box office as being so impressive, which is indeed a great achievement. However, if we look into its deeper meaning, perhaps the original animated films that have been painstakingly created are no longer as good as the social phenomena adapted from comics.

Although director Makoto Shinkai did not reveal any frustration, the facts are there. Previously popular works like "One Piece" and highly productive works like "Detective Conan" could not reach the heights of Makoto Shinkai, Hayao Miyazaki and other directors who focused on making original animated films. However, the world is developing, and more and more followers are not watching how much effort the director puts in, and actually have no time to explore it carefully. More audiences may just need to "know", "participate" and "topic" is enough.
