According to multiple reports from Brazil, a fire broke out in a shopping mall in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil recently, burning a batch of Warner Bros. movie and TV series props. At the time, the shopping mall was hosting the Warner Bros. 100th anniversary exhibition, displaying some props from Warner Bros. movie and TV series projects. However, Warner Bros. has not yet disclosed whether the burned props are originals or replicas. The cause of the fire is not known, or has yet to be announced. A report states that most of the props destroyed in the fire were original props from movies and TV shows, but they are all key props from large productions, meaning there are more than one. This means that while these props may be historically significant and technically irreplaceable, Warner Bros. (as well as private collectors and other museums or exhibitions) may own more. There are different opinions about which specific props were burned, but some reports say that the props burned include: Annabell doll, wands from the Harry Potter series, the Batmobile from the 1966 Adam West TV show, ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, Sauron's helmet and ring from The Lord of the Rings, and Christopher Reeve's Superman cape. If the items are originals and not replicas, it is unclear how many of each item exist, and how many are still in Warner Bros.' possession. Take the ruby slippers, for example. Five pairs of the slippers used in The Wizard of Oz are known to exist, some are on display in museums, at least one pair is in a private collection, and another pair was stolen in 2005. Although it was finally recovered in 2018, its exact whereabouts are still unknown. Additionally, the ruby slippers owned by Warner Bros. were purchased from MGM in the late 1990s. In 2023, Warner Bros. made a batch of replicas of the ruby slippers, so the ruby slippers on display in Rio (assuming there is a pair) may be one of the 2023 replicas, but it may also be an original on loan from elsewhere. |
