The animated adaptation of Zheng Yuanjie's fairy tale "The Magic Cube Building", produced by Shanghai Fine Arts Film Studio in 1990, has now been announced to be re-adapted into a theatrical animated film. It will be directed by Zheng Yuanjie's son Zheng Yaqi, who previously directed the new version of the animated film "Shukebeta".

The 1990 version of "The Magic Cube Building" was produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio. The animated version was originally planned to have 26 episodes, but due to content issues it was eventually remixed into 10 episodes. Later, due to content issues, it was changed to only the first 10 episodes. The previous remixed version of 10 episodes was suspended indefinitely, and the full 26 episodes have not been broadcast to date.

The old version of the animation tells a story about Rick who threw the Rubik's Cube to the ground in anger because he couldn't put it back together after it was scrambled. However, the Rubik's Cube suddenly became bigger, and the curious Rick entered the Rubik's Cube world. It turns out that the Rubik's Cube Building is composed of 26 "square countries", including parents in cans, glass country, train country, and Constellation tanker, etc. Rick started a series of magical adventures in these countries.

Due to its painting style, shooting angle and depressing soundtrack, "The Magic Cube Building" is also nicknamed "childhood shadow" by many friends.
