According to an exclusive report by foreign media Variety, producer Kong Chi Keung used all Hong Kong funds to produce an action movie that would make a world-wide splash and restore the reputation of Asian action movies. Called "Fury," it will be directed by Japanese action director Kenji Taniguchi, who was born in the "Yen Clan Class," and will star Xie Miao from mainland China, Indonesian actor Joe Taslim & Yayan Ruyan from "The Raid," and Thailand's Jejia Yanin, and has already started shooting in Thailand. The story is simple: a shopkeeper (played by Xie Miao) uncovers a complex criminal network and tries to rescue his daughter after she is kidnapped on the street. His only ally is a journalist (played by Joe Taslim). These two characters from different backgrounds must learn to trust each other, cooperate, and use the fighting skills given to them by their unknown pasts (almost a copy of "Taken"). Kong Chi-keung said the film had very high goals: "If it fails, Fury has to be on the level of The Raid or Taken. We hope the characters can move people." He also hopes to discover a new generation of Yuen Woo-ping, Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen through the film. Kong Chi-keung said: "Now is the time to make a great Asian action movie. We have the talent and the drive. Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick) pays attention to every Asian action movie, and I remember him telling me once: 'You (Asian filmmakers) don't know your own strengths.'" |
