HBO has quietly updated the latest episode of "Game of Thrones" and used technical means to delete the coffee cup that appeared in the scene. This is probably the most watched coffee cup in the world. Not long ago, HBO creators confirmed that this was a mistake, not an Easter egg or a product placement, although Starbucks made a joke. Interestingly, the coffee cup wasn't from Starbucks, with the Wall Street Journal confirming last night that it actually came from the show's catering service, rather than the popular coffee chain. HBO acknowledged the error and half-joked that "the lattes in this episode were a mistake; Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea instead." As Game of Thrones executive producer Bernie Caulfield commented yesterday, this kind of mistake is rare for a show of this magnitude, but it certainly was. This isn’t a blooper on HBO’s part: a similar incident occurred on Westworld last year when two cameramen somehow got into the shot, only to be removed in an updated version of that episode, much like the way it was handled on Game of Thrones. |
