Yesterday, HBO announced that the much-anticipated eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere in April next year. The official tweet reads: "Every battle, every betrayal, every risk, every duel, every sacrifice, every death, all for the Iron Throne!" The seventh season of the show ended in August last year, with a 20-month hiatus. The final season is scheduled to premiere in April next year, making the show eligible to compete for that year's Emmy Awards. The seventh season won nine awards at the 2018 Emmy Awards, including the Best Drama Series Award. The eighth season has only six episodes, but each episode is unusually long, and is said to be up to 90 minutes long. HBO has produced a short film titled "Only for the Throne" specifically for this season, gathering classic footage from the past to warm up for the final season. The series creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss will personally direct the final season finale. The original author George R.R. Martin has always claimed that the legendary story of Westeros will end with a mixture of sadness and joy. Winter is coming, so get your tissues ready. |
