Fantastic Four director says his sitcom experience influenced the making of this film

"Fantastic Four" director Matt Shakman says his experience working on the hit sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will influence the Marvel movie he's working on.

In an interview, Shakman said that "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" taught him some valuable lessons about chemistry and comedy. He will apply these lessons to future works, including MCU "Fantastic Four". From 2007 to 2017, Shakman directed 43 episodes of this sitcom.

“I’ve learned a lot over the years from working on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” Shakman said. “These guys bring a unique blend of playfulness and sophistication that I think is essential to any production.”

"Creators have to insist on being kids in the sandbox, playing and inventing, but also being rigorous about what they do. Comedy requires precision more than anything else. The precision of making something funny is usually more difficult than making something complex with special effects. So, playfulness and precision."

The actors’ use of improvisation in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was also a major influence.

“The improvisational discipline is so beneficial to the creative process,” Shakman says. “‘I like your idea, now let’s add this,’ that’s the essence of collaboration. That spirit permeates and informs everything I do, whether it’s a cross-continental production like Monarch or a small-budget production like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with four or five people involved.”

The Fantastic Four will kick off the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this is not an origin story, as Kevin Feige said the origins of the Fantastic Four are already well known to fans.

Shakman, who worked on WandaVision, quit working on the fourth modern Star Trek and returned to Marvel because he thought the offer was too good to refuse. In addition, Josh Friedman, the screenwriter of Avatar: The Way of Water, will also write the script for Fantastic Four.

However, the only Disney Marvel movie released in 2024 will be Deadpool 3.
