Netflix's animated film "The Monkey King" will be released on August 18, with Stephen Chow as executive producer

Sina Film reported today (May 18) that Netflix's animated film adaptation of Journey to the West, The Monkey King, released a poster and is scheduled to be released on August 18 this year. The plot is described as "a monkey and his magical golden hoop team up to embark on an epic adventure. They must fight gods, demons, dragons, and face their greatest enemy: the monkey's own self."

Stephen Chow serves as executive producer, with voice acting by Ouyang Wancheng, Yang Bowen, Xu Weilun, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, B.D. Huang, etc. Anthony Starch (The Boxtrolls, Into the Jungle) directs, and Oriental DreamWorks' Zhou Peiling (Abominable) and Kendra Haaland (Mulan, How to Train Your Dragon) serve as producers.
