Slam Dunk Movie Enters Top 10 Japanese Animated Films

The new movie version of Slam Dunk, The Fist Slam Dunk, has grossed 13.88 billion yen in Japan as of last Sunday, with 9.66 million tickets sold. The film has been in theaters for 156 days. It is currently ranked 16th in the Japanese box office history and 10th in the Japanese animated film box office history, surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in both rankings and falling behind Weathering With You.

The First Slam Dunk ranked first in the box office on its opening weekend. It sold 847,000 tickets in its first week, earning 1,295,808,780 yen. The film won the 46th Japan Academy Award for Animation of the Year. The film's producer, Toshiyuki Matsui, also won the 42nd Annual Fujimoto Award of the Entertainment Culture Association this year.
