Recently, NVIDIA officially launched the VSR video super-resolution technology, but it only supports RTX 30/40 series graphics cards. Intel is also reported to be preparing a similar feature, but it is only limited to 10th generation and later Core graphics cards and Arc discrete graphics cards. If nothing unexpected happens, AMD will follow suit, but of course it will definitely be limited to new A cards. Now, Microsoft has taken action and directly added its own related technology, also called VSR, to the Edge browser. The principle and effect of Microsoft Edge VSR technology are exactly the same as NVIDIA VSR. It also uses AI technology to eliminate the afterimages caused by video encoding compression and enhance the sharpness of the picture. It only supports standard definition and low definition videos with a resolution below 720p, but the video width and height cannot be less than 192 pixels, and it cannot have DRM digital copyright protection. The hardware supports NVIDIA RTX 20/30/40 series, AMD RX 5000/6000/7000 series graphics cards, but there is no mention of Intel Arc graphics cards. This also shows that NVIDIA VSR technology can actually be fully opened to the RTX 20 series. At the same time, Microsoft is also trying to support the combination of independent graphics + core graphics on laptops, but there is no specific explanation. I wonder if NVIDIA independent graphics card plus Intel core graphics card can work? Another point is that when using it on a laptop, it must be in power mode, not battery mode, because this technology consumes more power. Microsoft Edge VSR technology is now open to about 50% of users for testing. Those who have not received it can force it to be turned on by entering the following command in the Edge address bar: edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution |
