The movie "The Wandering Earth 2" is directed by Guo Fan, produced by Liu Cixin, and starred by Wu Jing, Li Xuejian, Sha Yi, Ning Li, Wang Zhi, and Zhu Yanmanzi, with a special appearance by Andy Lau. It will be released on the first day of the Lunar New Year in 2023.

The plot of the film revolves around the character played by Li Xuejian, explaining that the story takes place in the era when the plan to build 10,000 planetary engines was proposed, and that the era background of the story is the prequel to "The Wandering Earth". Guo Fan once revealed that the second episode will have more science fiction ideas and more worldviews.
