HBO's 'House of the Dragon' season finale premiered with 9 million viewers

There's no doubt that Game of Thrones means a lot to HBO, with the season 1 finale being the biggest night in the show's history. According to DEADLINE, House of the Dragon is getting just as much love.

The season finale of "House of the Dragon" attracted 9 million viewers, according to HBO cable and streaming platforms, even though the episode had been leaked before its premiere.

“We’re thrilled to see House of the Dragon become a hit with Game of Thrones fans around the world, as well as new viewers discovering the world of Westeros for the first time,” Casey Bloys, CEO and chairman of HBO, said in a statement from HBO Max. “Congratulations to writer George RR Martin, showrunners Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik and the entire House of the Dragon team for an incredible first season.”

According to DEADLINE, House of the Dragon attracted an average of 29 million viewers per episode, compared to nearly 33 million viewers per episode for Game of Thrones Season 8.

The second season of "House of the Dragon" will begin filming early next year.
