Amazon announces live-action series Blade Runner 2099

Amazon has announced Blade Runner 2099, a live-action sequel to the Blade Runner film.

According to the title, the story of "Blade Runner 2099" will take place 50 years after the recent sequel "Blade Runner 2049", and producer Silka Luisa (The Shining Girls) will be at the helm of production. "Blade Runner" director Ridley Scott and "Blade Runner 2049" screenwriter Michael Green will serve as executive producers. In addition, Tom Spezialy, who first joined the ranks of screenwriters, is also an executive producer.

Based on the 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner 2099 will continue to expand the universe first created by Ridley Scott in Blade Runner. Starring Harrison Ford as Deckard, the film tells the story of a man struggling to hunt down a group of deadly replicants while he faces questions about his own humanity.

Blade Runner 2099 has been in the works for a while now, with Ridley Scott confirming they have written the full story framework for Blade Runner 2099.

"We've already written the pilot and the Bible for Blade Runner. So, we've already made Blade Runner as a TV show, maybe the first 10 hours."
