Sources confirmed to DEADLINE that the HBO Max animated series "Batman: Caped Crusader" produced by executive producers Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves has been canceled. These are six HBO Max animated projects that were in production or already planned that have been canceled, including "Batman Jr.," "The Day the Earth Exploded: A Looney Tunes Movie," "Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical," "What I Did With My Vacation: The Steve Urkel Story," and "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie" (tentative title). According to sources, these animations will no longer be produced by HBO Max, but will be allowed to be taken over by other companies. As Warner Bros. Discovery continues its cost-cutting measures ahead of the merger of its HBO Max and Discovery+ services next year, dozens of films are being removed from the streaming service. Batman: The Caped Crusaders received a series order in May 2021. The reimagining of the Batman story is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions and 6th & Idaho, and marks the return of Batman: The Animated Series producer Bruce Timm. |
