The Penguin series producer says it's wonderful to be compared to The Sopranos

"The Penguin", a spin-off of "Batman", premiered on HBO on September 19. The series was directed by Craig Zobel and written by Lauren LeFranc.

Since "The Penguin" is a crime drama with a realistic style and also portrays a mafia family, many viewers compare the drama with the classic mafia crime drama "The Sopranos".

Lauren LeFrantz recently responded to the comparison: "You know, weirdly, The Sopranos hasn't been influenced a lot, but I understand the comparison. I mean, in general, it's a very good thing to be compared to one of the greatest shows on television. I feel like we're very different because we're in Gotham City."

In addition, Lauren LeFrantz emphasized: "We are a comic (adapted) drama. You know, we are also a well-founded crime drama. At the same time, Oz (Penguin) is a very different person. His relationship with his mother, it's a contrast, very different. I think as each season goes on, we will reveal this more specifically. Again, I don't think this is a bad thing. But I do think we are a little weird."
