Strong start: The Batman grosses over $100 million in North America in its first weekend

According to Variety, "The Batman" performed extremely well in the North American box office in its first weekend, with total revenue of 128.5 million US dollars. This is the second movie with a North American box office of over 100 million US dollars in its first weekend since the COVID-19 pandemic, second only to "Spider-Man: No Homecoming" ($260 million).

The production cost of "The New Batman" is as high as 200 million US dollars. It is not easy to make a profit. However, "The New Batman" has earned 120 million US dollars in the international box office, which brings the film's global total box office to 248.5 million US dollars, which has exceeded the production cost.

The New Batman will be available on HBO MAX in 45 days. It is not clear how much impact the online platform will have on the box office, but the opening weekend box office of The New Batman has exceeded the total box office of any other movie released by Warner Bros. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before The New Batman, Warner Bros.' highest-grossing movies since March 2020 were Godzilla vs. Kong ($100 million in North America) and Dune ($109 million in North America).
