The Rose of Versailles 50th Anniversary Movie Trailer and Character Visuals Released

It has been more than 50 years since the manga "The Rose of Versailles" by Yoshiko Ikeda was serialized in Weekly "Margaret" in 1972. Previously, the official announced in 2022 that a new theatrical version would be produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its birth. It is understood that the animation will be produced by MAPPA, directed by Yoshimura Ai, written by Tomoko Kaneharu, character designed by Mariko Oka, and the music will be co-created by Hiroyuki Sawano and Yasuyasu Yamamoto.

The original work of "The Rose of Versailles" is a romantic historical drama set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. The work has also been adapted into TV animation, live-action movies and stage plays, and has achieved great success. Not only did it break the long-standing monopoly of Tezuka Osamu's girl manga expression form in the Japanese manga industry at the time, but it was also known as one of the three immortal masterpieces of the 1970s, along with Tezuka Osamu's "Black Jack" and Nagai Go's "Devilman".
