Today (July 14), according to foreign media Deadline, the new "Star Trek" movie has just confirmed its director: Matt Shakman, the director of the entire "WandaVision" series who was just nominated for an Emmy Award. It is said that Paramount hopes to push this project forward at light speed and plans to start filming next spring. Previously, there was already a "Star Trek" movie scheduled to be released in North America on June 9, 2023, and the new film should be released in this schedule. It is not yet known whether the star of the previous ST movies, led by Chris Pine, will return to the new film. The film already has Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet writing the script. Beer was also a member of the writing room of Quentin Tarantino's "Star Trek" movie that failed to advance. Paramount had previously developed several new Star Trek movies, but they were shelved or unfinished: one by Quentin Tarantino, one by Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo, and an earlier one directed by SJ Clarkson (some say Hawley and Clarkson were working on the same project). In March this year, it was reported that Kalinda Vazquez was writing an original script, and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot company was producing it. |
