According to Deadline, the third installment in the Dune film series will begin filming in June this year, earlier than the previously reported 2026. Last October, director Denis Villeneuve said filming would begin in 2026, but now it looks like he will start work on the third part of the sci-fi epic right away. "I thought I was going to do something else, but frankly, after I got the inspiration when I took a break last summer, I just wanted to go back and finish this story right away," he revealed in an interview earlier this month. “I was deeply moved by the reception the second film received from fans around the world, and I myself wanted to see more, and felt a responsibility to complete this story.” The third film, titled Dune: Messiah, will take audiences back to the turbulent life of Paul Atreides and will be the final film in Paul's story. Villeneuve has previously said that even if there are other books that can be adapted, it would be "unhealthy" to continue the series. Dune 2 will be released in March 2024 and is competing for five awards at this year's Oscars (held on March 3), including Best Picture and Best Social Effects. It won the Best Sound and Best Visual Effects awards at the just-held British Academy of Film Awards. Dune 3 has yet to have a release date. |
