Gene Deitch, animator who directed Tom and Jerry, dies at 95

According to Hong Kong media reports, Gene Deitch, an American animator who supervised the classic American animation Tom and Jerry and participated in the animation of Popeye, died at his residence in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, on the 16th at the age of 95. Petr Himmel, a representative of Gene Deitch's Czech publishing house, revealed the news to the media, but did not disclose the cause of death.

Gene Deitch is of Czech descent. His full name is Eugene Merrill Deitch. He was born in the United States in 1924 and moved to Prague in 1959. He was responsible for supervising 13 animated "Tom and Jerry" films from 1961 to 1962, and also participated in the production of the "Popeye" animation series. In 1960, he won the Oscar for Best Short Animation for the movie "Munro".
