According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new Star Wars movie is in production, directed by Justin Dillard, the director of the sci-fi thriller Sleight, and written by Luke Cage. It is not yet clear whether the movie will be released in theaters or first released on Disney's streaming media Disney+. As Lucasfilm plans the next phase of Star Wars movies, executives are reportedly deciding which characters and stories are right for theaters and which are better suited for streaming on Disney+. No details about the plot, characters or settings have been released yet. Earlier, media reported that Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige and Star Wars 8 director Rian Johnson were interested in filming a new Star Wars movie. Disney had previously planned the release dates for three unnamed "Star Wars" movies: December 16, 2022, December 20, 2024, and December 18, 2026, all targeting the Christmas season. |
